You can plan discharges from the vessel to the yard with a variety of methods. Depending on your site’s operational considerations and your XPS configuration, you can do the following:
Automatically discharge containers (on page 1) from the vessel and assign tentative yard positions. This is best practice, for the following reasons:
It assures the correct discharge sequence off the vessel.
It provides a good idea of where containers will be planned in the yard so that you can station your yard equipment there.
It maintains the greatest slot flexibility to deal with containers out of sequence and equipment breakdowns.
Manually select containers from the vessel and assign yard positions by allocation range (on page 1) to ensure adequate space.
Manually select containers from the vessel and discharge manually to yard slots or blocks (on page 1). This method is usually only performed for special containers.
Manually select containers, plan them to logical blocks, and let N4 assign positions at the time of discharge (on page 1).
Minimize CHE movement in RTG/RMG blocks using stack-based decking. This is available only for Manual terminals.
Notes
To plan containers, you must be able to select, move, revert, lock, and complete container moves. For more information about these techniques, see the manual Navis N4: Basics.
